Background-The hubs got a new job, which he starts on Monday. The insurance that we are currently on covers the lap-band, but I originally planned on waiting until the new insurance policy began to start the pre-approval requirements (for the new plan.) I called the bariatric surgery group yesterday and asked them if I would be able to start the pre-approval requirements earlier and to find out what their requirements are for the surgery. They said I can absolutely start working on the pre-approval requirements, so the scheduling began!
The bariatric group requires a sleep study, and a letter from my primary care physician (PCP.) They also offer the three month pre-approval doctors supervised nutrition class that my new insurance requires and they are going to give me a referral for the psych evaluation that I am required to go to as one of the pre-approval requirements!
I am so excited to get the ball rolling! My first appointment with the nutritionist is on May 13th. The first appointment is a one on one appointment where they go over your current eating plan, and work on developing one that is specific to you for the next three months. The second two appointments are one month apart (so one in June and one in July) and are group classes. Everyone in the class is in the same point in the program, so each class will have a specific topic and things to begin working on. All three of my appointments/classes are now scheduled, the last one being July 25th. The sleep study folks called to set up my appointment for my sleep study, but I want to wait until our new insurance kicks in, since the coverage for the sleep study is better on the new plan. My annual physical was already scheduled for May 27th, so I will be having a full blood work up then as well as requesting the letter from my PCP stating that I am healthy enough to have this surgery.
I am so excited/happy/elated/etc that I went ahead and made the call yesterday. I didnt plan on making any appointments, but why not go ahead and get started? There’s nothing holding me back, I know that this surgery is right for me. Why wait? I’ve spent my entire life working on this, no reason to put off tomorrow any more

Good luck with the appointment! Congrats to your husband’s new job!
Being proactive definitely paid off! It’s fantastic that they can get you started on the pre-approval process. I am also really jealous that you don’t have a set weight loss requirement, like I do. Then again, this has been a good jumpstart for me, and I have to remember that with Kaiser, I don’t have to pay a penny for anything. No co-pay, no nothing. So I guess it’s worth the extra time and effort.
I’m so thrilled for you, and I can tell that this is the right decision for you. It jumps right out of your post. It’s the most amazing feeling to know that you’re heading in the right direction.
