Annual Physical/Weight/Weekend Recap

On Tuesday, I had my annual physical.  I mentioned a few weeks ago, that I wanted to switch Primary Care Physicians because of the horrendous customer service experience I was having at my previous PCP.  The new doctor is AMAZING.  She was young, easy to talk to, and also very excited at the prospect of me having bariatric surgery (after hearing that I’ve been on and off diets for 20 years.)  She seemed genuinely interested in me and finding out what she as a doctor can do to help me as a person.  It was very refreshing.

They didn’t run any of the normal blood panels that are run during physicals, because I showed her the pre-surgical requirements list and a lot of them are the same tests.  Her theory is why get poked twice?  Since I’m probably only two months from a surgery date, wait until I’m within the 30 days prior to surgery window to get the required blood work done.  There are numerous tests that must be within a time from of 30 days prior to surgery in order to be cleared for surgery.  I agree, not a huge fan of needles to begin with!

My weight has crept back up a little, so I am now 12 lbs away from my goal of losing 15 pounds prior to surgery.  I’m tracking and keeping an eye on it so that I can be sure to get to that goal of 15 pounds!  The biggest thing I’m running into is reminding myself that I cant eat anything and everything I want, surgery isn’t a “fix” it’s a tool.  I want to be as healthy as possible prior to surgery AND I want to not have even more weight to lose than I currently do!

I had a great and busy weekend!  Saturday, super early, I headed down to Richmond with one of my girlfriends to meet up with another girlfriend (it was me, my Maid of Honor and my Matron of Honor from my wedding.)  I knew this was one of my limited opportunities to have them both in the same place without other people around, so that this was going to be my chance to tell them about having weight loss surgery.

I have been very careful with who I am telling about surgery, but they are in my list of 5 people that I wanted to tell who I know will support me.  Telling them was almost like having a weight lifted off of my shoulders.  It’s not that I’ve been keeping it from them, but I also wanted to be 100% sure in my decision before I brought the topic up.  One of the two ladies father passed away due to complications from gastric bypass just about 8 years ago, so I wanted to be able to speak with her in person about it (she lives out of town.)

They were incredibly supportive, I expected nothing less.  They are both happy for me and will do anything they can to help me.  They are truly amazing girlfriends, I am very luck to have them.  They both said (in different words) “You’ve work hard and you’ve worked long at this, it’s your turn to have some help.”  Neither one of them see surgery as the “easy way out” they both see it as a tool to help me to get a healthier me.

Sunday, the hubs and two step kids headed down to my Dads for a Fathers Day cookout and pool time for the kiddies.  It was great to see my brother who also showed up.  It was nice to be able to spend some relaxing time out on the porch chatting while the kids swam!

I am SO late writing a weekend recap, it’s already Friday again!  Happy Weekend Everyone!

  1. Finding a doctor you like and have confidence in is so important! I’m glad you found her.

Telling your friends about the surgery is awesome and I’m glad it feels as if a weight has been lifted. I’m happy that you’ve added two more people to your support system!
