Post Op Day 3 August 25th

I woke up in the hospital Thursday morning.  I received help going to the bathroom and my vitals were checked all night long.  The surgeon and his PA came into check on me and asked me what I had been doing.  I gave them a list of everything we had done.  They were blown away by how much walking I had done.  They realized that I popped a stitch in my muscle wall, which lead to a tear in my stomach muscle.  That would explain why if felt like someone was stabbing me!  The walking goals that they give out are just that, goals.  I thought I had to get there, they said NO one walks a mile the first week and NO one should.

Walking was kept to a minimum on Thursday.  I walked to the bathroom and only half way around the floor a couple of times.  One of the times I couldn’t even make it down the hall without being in tears from pain.

I spent the entire day in the hospital and since my pain level was still so high, they had me stay a second night.  They kept me very well hydrated via IV fluids, but I continued to sip my water and eat a little of the protein jello and protein broth when it was brought to me.

Lesson learned.  Trust me, you NEVER want to tear a muscle in your stomach.  You immediately realize that everything in your body goes through your stomach!

  1. It’s strange to me that they would mention a “goal” that they don’t expect people to reach. I would have been just like you and strived for “good student” status and tried to walk the mike, too. Weird. They should really say what they mean.

I’m so glad you’re feeling better!!

  2. The thought of tearing a stomach muscle makes me shudder. Sometimes having a baby in your belly pushes those muscles in strange directions and even THAT hurts, so I can’t imagine! I’m glad you’re on the mend and totally agree with Bella – if you don’t WANT me to walk a mile, don’t TELL me to walk a mile!!

    • I agree with both of you ladies! The PA said that no one ever actually follows the rules and they were shocked I was able to do a mile on day 2. My Mom laughed and told them that they should never give an over achiever a goal without expecting them to meet it :)

SRG-I actually thought about you and a few of my prego friends which I found out I tore the muscle. Made me entirely scared for having a baby!
