Pureed/Mushy Foods Grocery Haul

Today marks the 1st day that I am allowed to move from a full liquid diet to a pureed/mushy foods diet.  Since we were heading out of town for the long weekend, I wanted to make sure that we were prepared, so we headed to the grocery store Friday evening.

The dietician recommended that I start with smooth foods and work my way up to things like pureed chicken or seafood salads.  The haul below will probably have me set for at least two weeks!

Avocados and Sweet Potatoes

The potatoes will be baked or steamed and then pureed.  The avocado will be smashed into a guacamole consistency.  A serving will be approximately a tablespoon at a time.

Tofu

I will roast or stir-fry this and then will have to chew to a apple sauce consistency.

Ricotta Cheese

I plan on making Eggface’s famous Ricotta Bake with this.  Can’t wait!

Refried Beans

I can top these with cheese and the smashed avocado for yummy healthy fats and protein!

Mashed Potatoes

I wasn’t sure what Sleevie McGavin was going to like, so I picked up a couple of types of mashed potatoes.  I have to make them thinner than usual, but I’m excited for these!

Hummus and Light Cheese Snacks

I can’t exactly dip anything into the hummus, but I can still enjoy it.  The cheese snacks will have to be chewed really well, but they are packed with protein.

Cottage Cheese

Lots of protein and delicious!

Cauliflower and Philadelphia Cooking Cream

I’m going to cook the cauliflower until soft and then puree it with the Cooking Creme.  Sounds yum to me!

Greek Yogurt

Not sure what types of Greek Yogurt Sleevie McGavin is going to like at this point, so I brought a few to try.

Canned Foods

I bought the smallest cans available for each of the canned foods I chose.  No idea what I will like at this point.  The plan is to puree each of these for the first week or two of this stage of eating.

Baby Foods

Soooo, yeah, baby food.  These are actually more for convenience than everyday usage.  I am a bit scared of them actually tasting like what they say they are.  We shall see!

Hope these give others on this same stage some ideas!

  1. Not sure if you have ever read a blog called Healthy Tipping Point, but if you’re looking for a good tofu recipe, go to healthytippingpoint.com, search for “perfect baked tofu” and try it. I love it and probably make it once a week or so. If you want the recipe and can’t find it, comment on my blog (I’m not good about checking email), and let me know and I can scan it and email or fax it to you.
