Reading blogs and online forums post-op, you read about a lot of people that seem to come out of anesthesia after surgery, have 1-2 tough days and then BAM they’re feeling awesome and are ready for life to begin again. That’s not exactly how it worked for me. I’m not sure how much of it had to do with the tear in my stomach muscle, and how much of it had to do with just general recovery from surgery. Not sure I’ll ever know for sure.
Last week was my first week back at work, and while I have a desk job, I do walk to and from lots of meetings and then sometimes have off site meetings. Last week wasnt easy, but it was manageable. I did go to sleep fairly early each night, just from exhaustion, usually by 8:30 or so. My pain levels were also manageable, I only needed to take liquid Tylenol (the liquid that tastes like a devils ass) twice.
This weekend things really started to turn around. Saturday I started the day by walking the dog for the first time since my surgery. We walked a half of a mile and I felt really good afterwards. I ran a few errands, grocery store, bank, gas, etc. I still felt good. I went ahead and took a nap Saturday afternoon, and woke up to walk the dog again. Sunday I walked the dog, did numerous loads of laundry, cleaned the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, did lots of picking up, prepared a couple of mushy food items for the week, and then walked the dog again!
It’s amazing how fast your house can go down hill when youre the one who usually takes care of those sorts of things. That’s not to say that the Hubs hasnt been AMAZING. He’s been a rock through all of this, never once complaining when I needed his help, or when yet again, he had to get up because I’d dropped something on the floor and couldnt bend over to pick it up.
I’m excited to be feeling more like myself. I still have some pain, but it’s manageable. There are still certain ways that I can’t turn my body or I get a sharp pain, but I can do almost everything besides heavy lifting by myself. I’ve been getting all of my supplements and have been exceeding my protein requirement everyday. I just feel blasted good.
I also fit into a pair of jeans I haven’t worn in a year
That helped my mood as well! So for those of you who are pre-op or are considering any form of WLS, the first few weeks might not be a cake walk, but it does get better, it gets so much better!

Yay! It’s amazing also how starting to get back to a normal routine makes us feel human again. Congrats on the weight loss & welcome back to normalcy
I’m so happy for you that you’re feeling more like YOU and that you’re becoming a skinnier version of you, too!! Fitting into pants that you haven’t been able to wear in that long had to be the best feeling in the world.
You already know this, but you are a huge inspiration to me. Thank you for leading the way.
