Week 4 is now over, now onto week 5! I’ve been a bit more adventurous in week 4 than I have been in previous weeks. I’ve allowed myself a greater variety of foods, both texturally and content wise. I even went out to dinner one night. My choice when I dined out was to go with the soup. I know how my body handles pureed soups very well at this point, so it was a safe choice.
As I progress through the mushy/pureed stage of post-op life, I am allowed to add a bit more texture back each week, with the caveat that I must chew, chew, chew. This weeks test I think will be crab. I am allowed white fish, crab, shrimp, tuna, and chicken while on the mushy pureed phase of the recovery diet. I did well on gently pureed chicken salad last week. While the chicken salad wasn’t chunky, it wasn’t smooth either, so it gave me a chance to practice my chewing.
This weekend we decided to spend Sunday at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The weather was beautiful and I didn’t want to be stuck inside all day. I packed protein powder knowing that I could have that mixed with water. What I didn’t expect was how tempting all of the different foods would be. It was entirely head hunger, because my body certainly doesn’t need fried oreos, cheesecake on a stick, steak on a stake, etc. I did have a couple of bites of things because I was feeling a bit light headed. I now know to better prepare for these sorts of events. I was SO blasted tired when I got home from 5 hours of walking around. It was a good reminder that I’m only four weeks out and still healing!
Onto the Weigh In Portion…
- Pre-Op 2 Week Liquid’ish Diet -12.8 lbs
- Week 1 Post Op -8.6
- Week 2 Post Op -6.2
- Week 3 Post Op -2.2
- Week 4 Post Op -3.8
- Total: -33.6
I can not believe how fast time is flying by. I’m now into week 5 of my post op life!

Amazing!
The weird/cool thing about this post is that I was just about to ask you if you’d had any problems with head hunger. Great minds, my friend, great minds. I’m wondering if the head hunger is less of a factor because you know what the repercussions of overeating are (throwing up). Not that I think we’re going to be “magically cured,” but I wonder if it’s less of a factor than it was pre-op.
