6 Month Challenge

Since I officially hit the 60 pound down mark yesterday, and knew I was VERY close to it at Mondays 3 Month check up with the surgeon, I decided I need to set a goal.  So far in this process I haven’t really set any weight loss goals for myself.  I knew I had Sleevie McGavin working for me, so I knew weight was going to come off.  Now, it’s time to challenge myself.

The first 6 months to a year are supposed to be the easiest/quickest in regards to weight loss post op, and I am making sure that I take full advantage of that.  On Monday’s appointment I asked the PA Tiffany if she thought it’d be possible for me to hit 100lbs lost by the 6 month mark, which is 3 months and 1 week away.  As of yesterday morning  I was down the full 60 pounds, so that would mean I’d have to average about 3 pounds a week over the next 14 weeks.  Tiffany’s response “probably not, it’s a bit aggressive, men can usually do it that quickly, but you can probably hit it between 8-9 months.”  I told her I was going to try to prove her wrong J  She said “bring it on.”  She’s AWESOME.

So how am I going to get to 100 pounds lost by the 6 month mark?

Step 1: Keep doing what I’m doing now.

  • 600-800 calories per day.
  • <40 grams of carbs per day.
  • >10 grams of fiber per day.
  • >80 grams of protein average per day.
  • Walking the dog 30 minutes a day.

Step 2: Amp up the work outs.

The only exercise I’m really getting right now is walking the dog.  That is going to change once we get moved into the new house this weekend.

  • Starting Monday I’m going to follow a workout schedule in the AM by taking full advantage of the fact that my body STILL has not adjusted to the time change.
  • M, W, F: 30 minutes on the treadmill.  I will work up to 45 minutes.
  • Once I’m down to a 15 minute mile, I will start C25K, doing each week twice.
  • Kettle Bells or Work Out DVD on T, Th.
  • Weekends, either Saturday or Sunday walk >3 miles.

Step 3: Update You

  • Every Wednesday I will do an additional weekly weigh-in update, to include information about my workouts for the week and how close I am to getting to the 100 pound mark.

I am going to start slow, and work my way up through a workout routine.  If I am going to lose 40 pounds in the next 6 months, this is what it is going to take.  I am going to need to work out 5 days most weeks, I am going to need to stick with what I am currently doing, I am going to achieve my goal.

Worst case scenario, I hit it by month 7 or 8.  No matter what, me and Sleevie McGavin are going places!

Tata for now,

  1. Yay for a 6-month challenge!! I think you can totally take 40 lbs off in that time frame. You’re determined, have a great plan, and I know you’ll do it. Just take each day as it comes. I’m so proud of you for pushing yourself this way. I’m sure you’ll prove Tiffany wrong, and she’ll be so glad!

I’m right there with you in terms of needing to amp up the workouts, and the minute this cough leaves me, I’m going to bring the sweat!!

  2. You are sooo right, Dr. Mo, Tiffany and the Staff are the greatest!! I am about six-weeks post op. I hope I run into sometime at the office! You are doing great!! Way-to-go!!
